Hannah – Senior Boarding Student
Hi! My name is Hannah, and I’m a Senior at Raffles American School. I joined as a boarding student when I was in 10th Grade, so this is my third year at RAS. I would consider myself to be hard-working, enthusiastic, and outgoing.
Living in a boarding school is akin to having one big extended family. As a family, we are always there for each other, both socially, emotionally, and academically. With the added pastoral care from the dedicated and friendly boarding staff and teachers, living in boarding has helped me develop personally and academically while assisting me in becoming a cultured global citizen for University and beyond.
One of my fondest memories at RAS Boarding would be the Neon Night Party held by Mr. Chris, our Director of Boarding. We had many similar events, but I think this event was my favorite because all the students came downstairs and played fun and engaging games with the teachers and boarding staff. It was definitely one of those moments when I felt like I was at home with my family, and not at boarding school.
I know that being in boarding school has taught me two fundamental traits; responsibility and independence. There is no one to clean up your bedroom for you or tidy your closet. So I now have a routine to do these simple chores that enable me to have a clean and organized living environment, and therefore a productive mind.
Finishing my high school education is just around the corner, and Raffles American School has helped me to achieve my goal of being accepted into my chosen university. I have just received an acceptance letter from the very prestigious New York University (NYU). I am so happy and can not wait to begin my studies in the US.
2020 has been a difficult year for everyone around the world, but what I have learned from this past year is never give up, keep trying, and do your best! You will never know the result unless you give it a try.
