THE BENEFITS OF A RAFFLES AMERICAN SCHOOL DIPLOMA
Raffles American School is a US WASC and IBDP accredited international school that offers university preparation. Graduates receive an American High School Diploma, which is accepted at all US universities and the majority of international universities. An American High School Diploma shows that students have completed a rigorous academic program tailored to their specific career goals. Pathways to higher education may include either the IB Diploma Programme or college-level, Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
HOW WE SUPPORT OUR FUTURE GRADUATES
Students in our secondary program are provided with regular support and guidance to design a graduation plan that fits with their interests and career goals. Students in Grades 9 – 12 meet with our secondary counselors to select their courses and discuss their career goals. Students are also advised on their co-curricular activities, community service, and other non-academic interests that can positively affect their university acceptance.
Each year, college recruiters come to the school for college fairs that allow secondary students to meet and ask questions about university degrees, prerequisite courses and college life.
SAT TEST PREP - RAS
RAS is an official SAT testing site and offers both PSAT and SAT testing. RAS students take the practice SAT (PSAT) in October of their Grade 10 year. The SAT is offered four times per year in October, November, December and March. Grade 11 students are encouraged to take the SAT at least once. Grade 12 students can retake the SAT at least once more before making applications to a college or university. In addition to being a testing site, RAS offers SAT exam prep to our secondary students.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP)
RAS currently offers 13 Advanced Placement Courses – AP Art and Design, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Economics, AP Language and Composition, AP Literature and Composition, Ap Human Geography, AP World History and AP Mandarin. AP courses are college-level content courses that provide secondary students with the knowledge, critical thinking skills and independent study experience that they will need to be successful at University. Each AP course ends with an external exam set by the College Board. If a student receives a grade of 3 – 5, they may receive college credit at the college or university they attend.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMME (IBDP)
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is an internationally recognized school programme emphasizing intercultural tolerance, academic achievement, and student enrichment. A two-year commitment spanning grades eleven and twelve, the IBDP focuses on teaching students how to think critically, culminating in six rigorous subject exams overseen by an international body. The IBDP provides a challenging and comprehensive education that enables future adults to create a better world through cross-cultural communication, understanding, and respect.
Where Our Graduates Go
The following is a list of universities who have offered places to our graduates:
“RAS helped me to achieve acceptance into my dream course and University! Our dedicated school Counselor, Mr. Norman, assisted me in filling out the application forms and advising on what schools I should apply to through his exceptional pastoral care. My favorite teacher at RAS would be Mr.Kho. He inspired me to reach for the stars and be the best that I can be. I was accepted into 7 different Universities and ultimately chose the prestigious Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), which was ranked 66th in the QS World University Rankings for 2022 and will be studying aviation engineering.”
