Secondary School Art Teacher

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Overview:

Raffles American School seeks an enthusiastic and creative Secondary School Art Teacher to inspire Grades 6 to 12 students through a dynamic and inquiry-driven visual arts program. The ideal candidate is a passionate educator who fosters artistic expression while developing technical skills, critical thinking, and cultural appreciation in the visual arts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach various visual arts courses across Middle and High School levels, including drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, and mixed media.

     

  • Design and deliver engaging, standards-based units aligned with the school’s American curriculum and adapted to meet diverse student interests and skill levels.

     

  • Create a safe and supportive studio environment that encourages risk-taking, creative exploration, and respect for individual expression.

     

  • Guide students in building a cohesive art portfolio and prepare students for exhibitions, competitions, and university applications where appropriate.

     

  • Integrate art history, criticism, and appreciation into practical lessons to enhance cultural and contextual understanding.

     

  • Differentiate instruction to support varied learning needs, language abilities, and artistic backgrounds.

     

  • Collaborate with other faculty members to plan interdisciplinary units and contribute to school-wide events and initiatives.

     

  • Organize student exhibitions, contribute to school performances or productions, and support extra-curricular art activities.

     

  • Assess student work thoughtfully and provide regular feedback to students and parents on progress and achievement.

     

  • Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to the school’s culture of continuous improvement.

Reporting Structure

 

  • Reports to the Secondary School Principals and Superintendent

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

     

  • Valid teaching certification with a focus on Visual Arts Education.

     

  • At least 4 years of relevant teaching experience in middle or high school, preferably in an international or American curriculum school.

     

  • Strong portfolio of personal or student artwork that demonstrates a range of media and teaching practices.

     

  • Proficiency in using technology and digital tools in the classroom (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, iPads, digital drawing platforms).

     

  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.

     

  • Ability to inspire creativity, cultivate confidence, and connect with students of varying artistic ability and backgrounds.

     

  • Flexible, collaborative, and culturally responsive in a diverse international environment.
