JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Overview:

Raffles American School is seeking a passionate and dynamic Bahasa Melayu Teacher to join our Elementary School team. The ideal candidate will deliver engaging and age-appropriate language instruction, foster a love for learning Bahasa Melayu, and contribute positively to our multicultural school community.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, student-centered instruction in Bahasa Melayu to elementary students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with the school’s World Language curriculum and learning standards.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies and resources to support language acquisition, including storytelling, music, games, and technology.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying language proficiency levels.
  • Assess and report on student progress regularly, providing timely feedback to students and parents.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation, creativity, and cultural appreciation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in planning interdisciplinary units and school events.
  • Participate actively in professional learning communities, school events festivals, and co-curricalar activities.
  • Uphold Raffles American School’s mission, vision, and General Learning Outcomes in all teaching and community engagement areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (with emphasis in Bahasa Melayu, Linguistics, or World Languages preferred).
  • Teaching certification or equivalent qualification in Bahasa Melayu education.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant teaching experience at the elementary level, preferably in an international or bilingual school setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach young learners using inquiry-based and student-centered methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills in both Bahasa Melayu and English.
  • Passion for teaching, with a nurturing approach and a strong commitment to student success.
  • Culturally responsive and flexible, with a willingness to be part of a diverse, international team.
Reporting Structure

  • Reports to the Elementary School Principals and Superintendent
