Roy grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles, California. Throughout his youth, he was involved in volunteering and supporting at-risk communities especially within educational settings. While completing his undergraduate degree in English Literature at UCLA he worked as a special education assistant and was drawn to supporting individuals with special needs. Roy graduated from UCLA with honors and moved to Seattle, Washington to work with at-risk youth as a social worker for several non-profits. After getting married, he and his wife, Emily, decided to move abroad to pursue a teaching career. Roy completed his TEFL Certificate and re-entered the classroom working with students in South Korea. During those five years in South Korea, Roy and his wife had a daughter and decided to continue teaching and living abroad for the foreseeable future. He received his teaching license in ESOL and Elementary Education. Helping young people reach their full potential, regardless of the setting, is his passion and ultimate objective. His interests include playing and writing music, volunteering with local non-profits, playing ice-hockey, cycling, reading, cooking and traveling to new and exciting places with his wife and daughter.
