Fidel joined RAS in August 2019 together with his wife Ms. Heather Olson-Garcia. They have 2 adult children, Roman age 26 and Rylee age 23. He is currently the College Counselor and is teaching 10th Grade Physical Education. Fidel grew up in the Bay Area of Northern California, where he lived his entire life before he moved to Malaysia to teach at Raffles. This is Fidel’s 24th year of teaching and his second year of teaching internationally. This is his first time living outside of the United States and is loving it.
Fidel graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences and earned his teaching credential from John F. Kennedy University.
Fidel has taught several subjects in Social Studies, Physical Education, Health, Spanish, and even Drivers Education. Fidel has always tried to create a classroom environment in which all students feel welcomed, respected, and supported. Besides enjoying teaching students, Mr. Garcia coached several years of American Football, Wrestling, Track and Field, and other team sports.
Fidel has always been passionate about working with youth as a teacher, coach, and mentor. He feels very fortunate to have worked with so many young men and women over the past 20-plus years. “I feel like I have made a positive impact on many students’ lives. Many of my students have had a great impact on my life too!” He also mentions, “The thing I enjoy most about teaching at RAS is our amazing students! I am having the best time in my teaching career, working with so many students from so many international backgrounds. I feel very fortunate to be here at RAS.”
In his free time, Mr. Garcia enjoys traveling, cooking, watching sports, and spending time with his friends and family. Fidel and his wife love traveling and can’t wait to experience even more in the future.
