Middle School Boys Football

Description: If you have a passion for football, enjoy competition and enjoy socializing with friends through hard work and training, come out and join the Raptors Football Club and be a part of a growing program that has made great strides over the last two years.

High School Boys Football (Varsity and Junior Varsity)

Description: Boys Varsity Football are for those athletes who are dedicated and passionate about playing football at a high level and are able to maintain a balance between academics and practice. Varsity Football requires a try-out process in order to be chosen for the team. Those who do not make varsity, will be play for our junior varsity team. All practice sessions must be attended. One cannot choose to attend on Monday’s and sign up for another activity on Wed.

Women’s Football

Description: Be a part of the growing excitement of women’s sports at RAS and join the Women’s Football team. If you enjoy or are interested in football, like exercise and fitness, and want to be a part of a developing program, come out and join the Women’s Raptors Football Team.

Swim Team (Aqua Raptors)

Supervisor:

Description: The Aqua Raptors swim team is for students that can demonstrate proper form for all four strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly) and are interested in swimming competitions. Swim Team is open to students 6th – 12th grade, and all swimming speeds are welcome. Aqua Raptors swimmers are expected to attend practice at least 2 days a week.

Varsity Tennis

Description: Varsity tennis is for those athletes who have experience playing tennis and are interested in challenging themselves to up their game in order to compete with other schools and represent RAS athletics.

Coding and Robotics

Supervisor: Chumbaka Asia

Description: This is a complete curriculum, allowing the students to build projects such as mobile apps, computer games, robots, IoT, and 3D structure. Students turn their ideas into prototypes to solve real-life challenges using Design Thinking methodology.

EcoCampus

Supervisor: Ms. Lisa Welsh

Description: Aiming to lower the carbon footprint of RAS. This will be done through supporting a connection and appreciation for our local and global environment through planting the seeds of sustainability.

Description: Practice your photography skills! You can bring your own DSLR camera or use the school cameras.

Dance

Description:Improve your dance technique and learn choreography in a variety of different dance styles. You may dance once or twice a week (Tuesday and/or Thursday)

Jazz Band

Description: The jazz band is an advanced ensemble that performs styles of music including rock, pop, blues, swing, and latin. The jazz band meets all year and performs at various concerts throughout the year. Participation in this group is by audition or invitation only.

Interact

Supervisor: Ms. Brittany Bond

Description:The Interact club is dedicated to helping better our local and global society by holding fundraisers to send money to charities in the area and around the world. We will also be volunteering for local charities and organisations. Students will be able to interact with their community and take action to start making the world a better place.

Wushu

Supervisor: Zen Wushu Academy

Description:Wushu, which is also referred to as Kung-Fu, is the collective term for the martial art practices that originated and developed in China, and Wushu is the wellspring of all Asian martial practices. Over its long history, Wushu has developed into numerous distinct styles and systems, each incorporating their own techniques, tactics, principles and methods, as well as the use of a wide variety of traditional weaponry. The differing styles that have emerged focus on many aspects of combat, but more importantly they have absorbed the popular philosophies and moral practices of the people in China over the past 5000 years of development. With that, Wushu has developed into more than just a simple system of attack and defense and has become a way to cultivate the body, mind, and spirit in a positive way that is beneficial to all that practice it.

Beginner Tennis

Supervisor: Mr. Foong

Description:Beginner Tennis is for students with little to no experience playing tennis. Tennis is a great sport for young athletes that will help improve endurance, agility, coordination, power and overall athletic skills. With continued practice, tennis is one of the few sports that someone can practice throughout the majority of their lives to stay fit.
** This class will only be 75 minutes opposed to the usual 90 minutes.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Supervisor: GFTeam Johor Bahru

Description: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art using takedowns, leverage, and joint manipulations where participants execute practical techniques to intelligently overcome aggressive opponents; focus on discipline, self-defense and personal development. Participants must wear the Gi (uniform & belt) to learn the basics, which will be provided at a cost. Children are taught the fundamentals of BJJ and introduction to BJJ competition.
* Returning students from last year will have priority in registration.

Money Tree

Description: MoneyTree educates kids on the concepts of Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship. Main focus is on

Description:Make an impact with technology by learning new skills and helping others outside of our club. Learn some of the newest educational technology tools, tips and tricks from Apple, Google, and global startups. This club will empower students to improve tech skills while also trying new apps and websites which RAS may use in the near future. Students should be willing to try new things, enjoy learning and creating within a group as well as helping others with new technology skills that you learn. This is not a coding club.

Composers Club

Description:The Composers Club explores music creation through improvisation, traditional notation and electronic software. Students will compose music that expresses their unique interests and ideas.

Rock Climbing

Description: Learn the techniques to safely climb, belay and enjoy the sport of rock climbing. Instructors have final approval of club membership.

Chess Club

Description: Through chess students Improve concentration and memory, enhance reading and math skills, fosters logic, critical thinking, and creativity.

Taekwondo

Supervisor: Master Kanesan Narasingam

Description: Taekwondo is a total learning activity. Lessons are tailored to your child’s age and skill level. Child begins by practicing basic patterns and forms, board breaking, kicking, blocking, striking, and punching. These fundamental skills increase child’s physical coordination, flexibility, balance, and mental acumen. Taekwondo develops child’s athletic abilities and self-awareness, and improves the child’s capabilities in self-defense.

Coding and Robotics

Description: The students will learn computer programming languages such as Scratch, mBlock, C++ and App Inventor 2. The hardware is the Arduino Uno whereby students may do coding to make interesting projects from the Arduino. Projects can be made with LEDs, Servo motor, Sensors, arduino board and some recycled materials.

* If student’s personal laptop is used, some software will need to be downloaded onto the laptop.

* Student’s laptop should have USB port. If not, student should provide the USB Adaptor.

Secondary Musical

Description: If you like to be on stage, this is your opportunity. We will be preparing for a musical presentation of Shakespear’s – A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

This humorous and classic show will have roles for students:
-who only want to sing in a large group chorus
– who want to sing in small groups
– who are up for the challenge of singing solo.
– who want to show their acting skills

Description: Set Design, Building & Painting for the Musical Theater production. In this one season CCA, we will be designing, making and painting background scenery, props and whatever is needed for Musical Theater. Join us if you love to make things, think big and want to be involved in theater “behind the
scenes”. This CCA is a great way to use your 2D and 3D Art & Design skills (concept design through construction).

SERVICE LEARNING: 5 Community Service Hours will be granted for participating High School students in this CCA.

Description: Hip hop dance is part of the hip hop culture. It is characterised by staccato movements, power moves along with a very grounded posture and style. It is widely used in b boy battles and is one of the most famous international dance forms.

Description: I will use a movie as a starting point to teach students how to enjoy a movie, and also find out the commonality between movies and novels. Due to the relationship between film and literature, students will learn an appreciation for these art forms.

Scuba Diving

Description: A great course which enables students to dive to a maximum of 18m in the ocean, The course will reach its conclusion on Tioman Island and include the Padi Scuba Diving Course, accommodation, ferry ticket, and a Dive Johor T-shirt.

Description: Do you enjoy writing and reading poetry? Are you excited about the art of poetry? Would you like to participate in the second annual Poetry Alive? In the Poetry Alive CCA, we will enhance self-expression and literacy through the writing and performance of poetry.

Creative Writing/arts

Description: This CCA is for students interested in finding creative paths to take their own words and voices and turn them into original works and projects. Students should have a good level of English and be willing to write and share collaboratively. Projects may include Storyboarding, Poetry/Lyrics, Music Videos, Podcasts, Choose Your Own Adventure stories and journaling. If you dislike writing, this may not be the CCA for you.

Girls Empowered

Description: This is an opportunity for young girls to find avenues for self-empowerment; we want to inspire girls to be confident, self assured and to find their purpose and place in a society that can be overwhelming. We will focus on self-esteem and will build each other up as we develop a sense of ‘self’ and community in the ‘girl world’. We will develop our individual talents and use these talents to reach out to the community through volunteer work.
