Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians
Welcome to the Raffles Boarding Program, and the start of an exciting phase at Raffles American School in Malaysia. My wife Natalie and I are very excited to welcome your child and family into the boarding program. I have been in private education at a management level for over 12 years, in countries such as South Africa, England, Vietnam, and China. Throughout my teaching career, I have been involved in boarding programs and believe this is my calling and passion. There are no set times of duty for staff in a boarding house. Your child’s care is our main priority. Through our dedicated boarding team, we will offer your child the opportunity to excel academically in the classroom, and outside the classroom in a social environment. We offer many extra curricular clubs and sports at RAS that will ignite the passion within your child. The Boarding Program will also challenge your child to succeed and reach their full potential in all aspects of their life. It is imperative your child leaves school ready to face the obstacles and challenges of university, college, and professional life. Students will develop real world skills in the boarding house on a continuous basis. My main aim is to ensure that your child is exposed to a rich and vibrant environment that will allow your child to become a holistic learner and global citizen. The Boarding Program is a “home away from home”, and it is critical your child enjoys their experience in the boarding house. A happy child is a child that wants to learn, succeed and challenge themselves consistently. My goal is to create a setting that will allow your child to be happy and enjoy their time at the school while learning the values and ethos that will ultimately help them succeed outside of school. The boarding campus environment will ensure students are immersed in an educational environment where learning is central to all their activities.
Most importantly, the boarding house is a safe and nurturing environment. It will allow your family to be at peace, knowing that a team of dedicated staff have your child’s best interests, safety, and development at heart. I welcome letters and questions. I have an “open door” policy and encourage parents to have an active involvement in the boarding house. I look forward to welcoming you, your family and child to the Raffles Family. I would like to leave you with a quote that has inspired me in my career and moulded my approach towards young adults:
“Every child has a different learning style and pace. Each child is unique, not only capable of learning but also capable of succeeding.”
