This course focuses on the four main standards of the English language, which include Reading: Literature, Reading: Informational Text, Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language. Students will complete several types of written assessments including a literary analysis, a novel during NaNoWriMo, several reflections, an argumentative essay, a business plan, creative writing/poetry, and finishing with a comprehensive research project called, “Genius Hour,” which allows for students to follow their passions. In regards to reading, students will be able to pick their own for a literature circle unit. Following this, is a “Living in Fear,” thematic literature circle unit where students will conduct a Socratic seminar and final presentation. Throughout the course, students will be able to choose their assessments in order to allow for student choice and creativity/innovation, which follow closely with our GLOs and the world we live in today.
