5 Ways Raffles American School Teachers Will Keep Young Students Covid-19 Safe

Although the 2020-2021 school year will begin in just a few days, we at Raffles American School have been busy for months preparing for our students to return to campus. This process involved securing the Ministry of Education approval for our Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

Our youngest students may have the most difficulty with this SOP. So we have gone beyond the minimum requirements to make our campus the safest it can be for their arrival. Here are just a few of the ways we’re making Raffles American School Covid-19 Safe.

1. LIFE IN A BUBBLE THINKING

Social distancing isn’t the most child-friendly concept. Which is why our Elementary school will be embracing the concept of “Life in a Bubble.” When faced with peers getting too close to them, Elementary students will learn to kindly tell their peers to respect their bubble.

SOP2. FACE SHIELDS STORED AT SCHOOL

For additional protection, Elementary school students will be wearing face shields provided by the school. For the convenience of parents, these face shields will be stored at school so there are no issues of children forgetting them at home.

SOP3. FOCUS ON PROCEDURES AND EQUIPMENT

Every school year begins with teachers reviewing classroom rules and procedures. In order to help our younger students following the SOP we’ve established, our teachers will include information on proper handwashing, mask-wearing, and social distancing procedures in the first days of school. With the guidance of our skilled teachers, students will be able to quickly adapt to the new expectations.

4. SEATING PLANS

Younger children thrive on clear expectations. With seating plans in place for academic and mealtimes, RAS Elementary students will know exactly where to sit during the school day. Teachers will continue to emphasize that these assigned seats keep everybody safe.

5. REDUCED MOVEMENT AROUND THE SCHOOL

Before the new SOP, students would attend music and arts classes in separate classrooms. This year, our music and arts teachers will travel to Elementary classrooms in order to reduce student movement around the school. The less movement around the school there is, the easier it is to help younger students maintain social distancing.

Above all, we recognize that our younger students may need additional social and emotional support in transitioning from learning from home to being in the classroom again. Our Elementary teachers won’t only be teaching new procedures and the SOP, but they will also make students feel safe and cared for at school. We are confident that the transition back into school will be a positive experience for these students.
