Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you all into the new and exciting world of Junior Boarding at Raffles American School. Junior boarding at RAS caters to students from the ages of 8 through to 12 years old. By choosing RAS Junior Boarding, you will offer your child a number of unique and exciting opportunities to develop a love for learning in an independent, yet structured environment. Our mission, as a boarding facility, is to create an environment that is aligned with, and compliments, the school’s mission to creating a learning community that empowers its students to achieve their academic and life potential. RAS Junior Boarding supports all of the school’s academic and extra-curricular activities A young child needs to be able to learn through play. At RAS Junior Boarding we focus on “learning through play” enabled by our well designed, full-time program and state of the art facility design. These are both supported and run by a full compliment of boarding staff dedicated to the success of every child. Attending boarding school away from home at a young age can be a challenge. We are acutely aware of the needs of each and every one of our learners as well as those of their parents. Keeping this in mind, our boarding house is designed to have all of the comforts of home and more. Our students are paired up in rooms, each with their own cupboard for personal belongings and a work station for academic activities. Each floor of the boarding house is equipped with a common area for exclusive use by those on that floor-personal space for them to relax, play or do some reading. Each floor has a spacious washroom with individual toilets and shower facilities. On the ground floor, a specially designed playground awaits all junior boarders. This common room has reading nooks, television, games and so much more. It has been designed to attract, inspire and motivate all who enter. It is truly a wonderful space.
My aim is to ensure that your child grows into a confident, excited and motivated teenager fully equipped to tackle their final years of secondary schooling and achieve their full potential. I understand, that for parents and guardians, sending your child away to boarding school is equally as stressful for you. As a result of this, I have an “open door” policy whereby parents and guardians are encouraged to contact me at any time should they wish to discuss the progress of their child, or to simply check on how they are doing. Our boarding house is a safe, warm and welcoming environment where every student is a valuable member of the family. I thoroughly look forward to traveling this journey with you and your children as they are welcomed into the Raffles family.
